Our 2025 webinar series presents speakers on a range of topics associated with Fragile X syndrome and the Fragile X premutation.

The program for the first half of 2025 is varied,  covering practical matters around supporting daily living for people living with Fragile X syndrome and planning for the future, and  health aspects for women who are Fragile X premutation carriers.

We’re delighted to welcome key speakers back to the program, including GP Dr Jonathan Cohen,  occupational therapist Bev Kadish, endocrinologist  Dr Amanda Vincent, IVF specialist Dr Mark Livingstone, disability-specialist lawyer Margaret Duncan and, later in the year, psychologist  Dr Marcia Braden.

For many webinars the recording of the presentation can be found on the Fragile X Association of Australia youtube, Spotify and Apple Podcast platforms.    If a webinar is “live only”, this will be clearly noted.

Medications and Fragile X syndrome

This webinar on 20th February 2025 presented a discussion of medications which may considered in addressing symptoms of Fragile X syndrome such as anxiety, ADHD, ASD, mood disorders, epilepsy, and sleep disorders.

Dr Jonathan Cohen MD is the Medical Director of the Fragile X Alliance Clinic. In his clinical practice Dr Cohen sees children and adults living with Fragile X syndrome or the FMR1 (Fragile X) premutation.

Sensory processing disorders and Fragile X syndrome

Bev Kadish is an Occupational Therapist with many years of experience in supporting children and adults with Fragile X syndrome, both through her own private practice and with the Fragile X Alliance Clinic.

Heightened and dysregulated sensory sensitivity is a very common for children and adults who have Fragile X syndrome, and can impact behaviours and daily living. In this webinar Bev will discuss how the sensory processing disorders can affect individuals and present sensory diets as a strategy to help give the person who has Fragile X syndrome the best chance to feel calm, alert and organised as a result of appropriate sensory input.

Fragile X-associated Primary Ovarian Insufficiency | FXPOI: What Do I Need to Know?

Clinical Associate Professor Amanda Vincent is a leading Australian endocrinologist and menopause specialist, combining clinical practice in menopause with menopause related research, translation and education. Dr Vincent is lead endocrinologist in the Menopause and Menopause Oncology clinics, Monash Health, Clayton and Head of Early Menopause Research, Monash Centre for Health Research and Implementation, Monash University.

The webinar will focus on Fragile X-associated Primary Ovarian Insufficiency (FXPOI) and early menopause, covering health considerations and symptom management for women who are Fragile X premutation carriers.  Dr Vincent will also discuss the risk factors for FXPOI, and will touched on fertility management considerations for young women who may be at risk of fertility issues related to the Fragile X premutation.

Dr Mark Livingstone is the Medical Director at the Genea clinic, in the Sydney CBD.

Dr Livingstone specialises in genetic conditions requiring preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) and couples requiring a second opinion who have had previous unsuccessful IVF cycles.
