AGM 2024 | Sunday 1 December 3pm AEDT, online

The  2024 Annual General Meeting for Fragile X Association of Australia will be held on Sunday 1 December 3:00-4:15 pm AEDT online.

The AGM is always a great chance to reflect on the past year and look to what’s ahead. We’ll cover FXAA’s programs and impact in 2024, review the organisation’s financials at 30 June 2024, and elect new Board members. We’ll celebrate FX Achievement and Volunteer Awards, provide an update on our Fragile X Care| Adults & Ageing work, and take a look at what’s on the horizon for FXAA in 2025. In addition, members will be asked to vote on a Resolution to amend the FXAA Constitution 2023.

(Proposed changes reflect updated ‘charitable objects’ for FXAA,  specify that FXAA is a Non-profit organisation, and propose some minor updates to other wording in the current Constitution.)

Two of the current Board members have re-nominated to serve a further term on the Board: President Cynthia Roberts PhD and Vice-President Prof W Ted Brown MD PhD.

Fragile X Care | Adults and AgeingUpdate
This is the first Australian study on adults and Fragile X syndrome, being undertaken by FXAA in collaboration with our project partner Centre for Disability Studies (affiliate of University of Sydney).   This 3-year project has been funded by a grant made to FXAA by the Henroth Group.

o Treatments for Fragile X syndrome – What’s on the Horizon?  
Prof W Ted Brown will provide an update on the ongoing RECONNECT clinical trial which is taking place in several countries including Australia, and present an overview of other clinical trials which are exploring the effectiveness of proposed targetted treatments for symptoms of Fragile X syndrome.

o Reproductive Carrier Screening for Fragile X Update
Pre/early pregnancy testing for carrier status for Fragile X, Cystic Fibrosis and Spinal Muscular Atrophy is now publicly funded via Medicare. FXAA President Cynthia Roberts will report on the uptake of this testing over the past 12 months.
