The Fragile X Association of Australia (FXAA) Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2022 will be held on Sunday 20th November 3:00pm AEDT via Zoom and in our office in Brookvale, Sydney. The AGM Notice and Zoom details will be emailed to members at least 3 weeks in advance of the AGM.

NOMINATIONS FOR THE FXAA BOARD OPEN
Serving on the Board as a volunteer director is a rewarding way to support the Fragile X community and to help shape the future direction and impact of FXAA.

One Board position is currently vacant, to be filled at the AGM.   The current Board members have a range of skills and experience – across the disability sector, in genetics, research and advocacy – and most have a personal connection with Fragile X.   To complement and extend the skillset and experience of the current Board, nominations are invited in particular from people who have experience in areas such as funding, advocacy, or marketing/communications.

Also at the AGM three Board members whose current terms are set to expire will each nominate to serve a further 2-year term. (President Prof Ted Brown, Secretary Dr Cynthia Roberts PhD, director Kate McKeand)

ABOUT THE BOARD
FXAA comprises members and an elected Board of a maximum of 8 volunteer directors, all of whom are members, and it employs staff.
Board members serve 2-year terms, to a maximum of 4 terms.   The office bearer roles are President, Secretary, Treasurer.   Details of the role and powers of the Board are listed in the FXAA Constitution.    A key role of the Board is to ensure that FXAA works towards fulfilling the FXAA Strategic Plan 2022-2025,  which has areas of focus across the four pillars of Support & Connection, Empowerment, Advocacy and Education.

The Board meets virtually every 2 months, and Board members also attend the AGM.  Board members may also be involved in sub-committees which serve to support FXAA through information and recommendations, including the Executive Committee (comprising President, Secretary, Treasurer), the Fragile X Scientific, Clinical and Research Sub-committee , the Fragile X Endowment Fund Committee   and the International Fragile X Premutation Registry panel.

ELIGIBILITY FOR MEMBERSHIP OF THE BOARD
Eligibility criteria:

• Current membership of FXAA: An individual who is nominated for Board membership and the people who make the nomination or second (support) the nomination must all be current members of FXAA.
• Director ID: An individual who is nominated for Board membership must apply for or have a Director ID (unique identifier number) from Australian Business Registry Services to verify their identity before appointment. https://www.abrs.gov.au/director-identification-number/apply-director-identification-number
• Responsible Person criteria of the Australian Charities & Not-for-profits Commission must be met
