Mandy Barker

Mandy is a freelance social media manager and virtual assistant, and lives in Brisbane. Her son was diagnosed with Fragile X syndrome at age 8. He had previously been diagnosed with Autism and received appropriate supports, although the diagnosis had not fully explained his developmental delays. Shortly after this surprise diagnosis her older daughter was also found to have Fragile X syndrome.

Mandy is a keen advocate: for awareness of Fragile X and Intellectual Disability in the broader community; earlier diagnosis by GPs & medical professionals; the availability of broader genetic screening; and inclusivity in everyday life for our very special Fragile X family members. Mandy has been involved with FXAA since 2017, and was appointed to the Board at the AGM on 21 November 2021.
